Program
The meeting opened at 10:30 am at Sewing Studio with our facilitator, Carol Bachi, welcoming everyone back. Yes, we were all smiling behind those masks!
Carol started off with a discussion of “Flatter Your Figure” based on a book of the same name by Jan Larkey. (It is an older publication but can still be found online.) She discussed how your choice of garment collars and necklines along with assessing your face shape, hair style and accessories can all blend into flattering your upper body. Another book she suggested was “Looking Good Every Day” by Nancy Nix Rice. In this work the author goes into color in great depth as well as make-up to compliment the wearer.
Jill presented a hands-on discussion about adjusting your flat pattern through lengthening, shortening, maintaining grainline, using the hinge method to increase or decrease pattern size and blending adjusted seams. We all were given the tools needed and a quarter pattern and learned how to re-draw necklines as well as how to create a built-in gusset into a sleeve. This was a wonderful way to learn practically.
