Buttons were initially used for decoration and not as functional fasteners.

Someone mentioned finding buttons at a booth at the Sewing Expo. Lyn showed these goldtone buttons that she found there in the “orphan” bin. There was also a bag of six black and goldtone buttons from Cutting Line Designs.

These sewing themed buttons will be perfect for some future project.

You never know when you might need an interesting button for a project. Lyn made these pins at an ASG meeting back in 2014.

Another place she used “orphan” buttons was in fabric books for her grandsons. An ABC book made from a fabric panel had printed pictures for each letter. These were embellished with beads and buttons. On this page for A and B, you can see beads for astronaut, ambulance, and airplane, plus buttons for ball and boots. On the C and D page, there is a large cupcake button along with cat and cheese, plus drum, doctor, and dog buttons.

Some buttons were removed from clothing no longer in good enough condition to wear and hopefully will be used in some future project.

Always on the lookout for a sale, she found a lot of interesting textures and shapes in the clearance bin at JoAnn’s.
