A few memories from
April 18th, 2015
We knew it was going to be a special day the moment we arrived. The room was filled with color! All the details from name tags to table decorations were bright and cheery. Sewing machines and ironing stations lined the walls ready for creativity to happen.
To set the tone, using brilliant photos, Susan Van Swearingen opened our eyes to Mother Nature’s use of colors.
Pictures of different color combinations found in nature help us to understand how to maximize our use of color in all our sewing projects.
Then, it was our turn to add some color to our day. We floated inks on shaving cream to “marbleize” fabric pieces. The technique was fabulous fun and not nearly as messy as some had feared.
After a delicious lunch, a new pattern that Susan developed for our project was distributed and the assembly began. With “kits” pre-cut by the CAB, and machines provided by a local Bernina store, we made vanity bags that showcased our marbled fabrics. The pattern features a few tricks for including batting, lining, and a contrasting zipper.
We started with a white piece of fabric and “everyone” left with a finished zippered pouch that is truly a one-of-a-kind work of art. Coloring outside the lines with friends! What a great day!
