PROGRAM - SEWING FOR AND WITH CHILDREN

We had excellent slide show presentations and samples from Connie and Helen.

Connie: I made a Christening gown for my niece’s baby. Pattern she picked had lots of tucks in the top. I used lace trim with pearls near the hem.

Now I have a granddaughter. Made this dress out of white eyelet fabric. Alexa and her sister Halle both wore it.

Christmas velveteen dress, collar has lace overlay. Velveteen - a fabric with nap - cut all pieces same direction.

Matching Easter seersucker dresses for Alexa and Halle.

Alexa’s sundress is a different pattern with circle skirt. Trim is wide fuchsia rick rack and heart buttons on the straps.

The girls both loved to wear dresses.

Another summer dress for Alexa with high waistline.

The girls loved their nightgowns, too.

Birthday gift for Alexa and her American Girl doll, gown and PJ’s. I did a lot of sewing for the girls' American Girl Dolls.

Two more gowns for the girls. Halle’s has ribbon trim on the yoke.

Then they got a brother. So I made several sun suits, shirts and PJ’s for Colin.

Now I have a great granddaughter so made this dress and hat for Carsyn. Cute pattern with several pieces to the skirt like petals to a flower.

As always Helen's things were impeccably sewn, inside and out: smocking, ruffles, lace, tiny piping and more. She strongly recommended to sew clothes to fit NOW. Otherwise it won't work out (wrong season, growth spurt where you miss the size completely, uncomfortable because it doesn't fit right, ...). Buy the best fabric you can afford. Use self binding on buttonholes. She likes Children's Corner sewing patterns. Find inspiration in Classic Sewing magazine.
